Hyde Park new domain for rugs
RUGS A Million has relocated from Domain Central to the Hyde Park Centre to reduce their rent bill and increase their exposure.
The company which has over 1000 rugs in their Townsville store made the move in April. They are now based in Woolcock St and have prime street frontage with thousands of cars driving past the store every day.
Rugs A Million national manager Steven Carr said they decided to move after noticing customers were having trouble finding them at Domain Central.
“We found traffic was down at Domain and because it’s a higher priced location being a real destination home maker centre, Hyde Park was less expensive,” he said.
“We wanted to be a little more prominent and being a store with a small footprint sometimes customers couldn’t find us at Domain.
“The new store is also bigger which makes it easier with Townsville being further away because we have the ability to store more stock. The distance away from the northern suburbs is now a little bit further but we wanted something with good exposure.”
Rugs A Million has taken on a three- year lease, with Colliers International agent Shaun McLaren and Todd Walsh securing the space for the store.
Mr McLaren said while most of the Hyde Park Centre had now been leased there was still one 306sq m premises available through Colliers.
“It’s ( Hyde Park Centre) is close to the CBD, it’s got a lot of retail tenants in there and they all seem to be going well,” he said.
“It’s a positive that retail businesses are opening up there and doing quite well.” 355sq m
