Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS - CHRIS McMAHON

DRUGS, a gun and stolen property were allegedly found when police pulled over a car in North Ward on Monday night.

Police stopped the car in Eyre St about midnight, allegedly finding a .22 calibre rifle, methamphetamines and drug utensils. A Kelso man, 33, and woman, 30, were arrested and charged with various offences including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possessing drugs and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Detective Sergeant Ben Hunter said the car was stopped randomly but police discovered its two occupants were both wanted on unrelated matters.

“A subsequent search of the vehicle and ( the couple) has located a number of drug matters and a firearm,” he said.

“It is a concern that people have firearms in their vehicle at any time and it’s important that we’ve got that firearm off the street.”
