Diamonds rest spent Layton

AUSTRALIA Diamonds defender Sharni Layton has withdrawn from the Netball Quad Series team because of exhaustion.

Layton, 29, made her international debut in June, 2011, and has 46 Test caps.

“First and foremost we have a duty of care to the wellbeing of our athletes,” Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander said.

“Sharni has represented and led our country with her heart on her sleeve, but is in need of a break.”

The Diamonds will gather on the Sunshine Coast from August 22, before opening the Netball Quad Series in Brisbane on Saturday, August 26, against England.
