Flanagan fires back at Bennett’s Bird barbs

Townsville Bulletin - - SPORT -

CRONULLA coach Shane Flanagan has let fly at his Brisbane counterpart Wayne Bennett, slamming suggestions that his club is trying to get Jack Bird to break his Broncos deal.

Flanagan has lit the fuse for a bitter clash between the two sides on Friday night after openly declaring he has little interest in what Bennett says.

His comments came after Bennett took a none- too- subtle swipe at the Sharks, declaring Bird would enjoy the playing style of the Broncos.

“I couldn’t give a damn what Wayne says. He can do what he likes. Doesn’t interest me. I don’t read it or listen to it. I have a young bloke over there who is shattered about what he is supposed to be saying or supposed to be doing.

“I don’t care what the Broncos are saying about Jack Bird. At the end of the year we will give him a cuddle and send him on the plane and away he goes.”
