MOUNT Isa Police have been preparing for rodeo week celebrations but at least two officers got slightly distracted by an Australian pop star.

The Darwin- born star was in town for a concert on Wednesday night and police were equally excited to meet her. “Look who Mt Isa Police bumped into ... Jessica Mauboy in town to help kick off the Mt Isa Rodeo festivities,” Queensland Police wrote on Facebook.

The free live concert was attended by at least 6000 Mount Isans and tourists at the Isa Street Festival, with people taking up every vantage point.

Jessica said she was excited to be in Mount Isa since her mum still lived there.

She took the time to talk to community members, who were keen to congratulate her on her success.
