BOATIES will cel­e­brate the com­ple­tion of work at the Townsville Recre­ational Boat­ing Park in South Townsville with a fam­ily fun day from 12.30pm to 5pm today.

Stage 2 of the boat park is now com­plete with an ad­di­tional 113 car- with- trailer bays, new wash- down ar­eas, two more four- lane ramps, se­cu­rity cam­eras, ex­tra light­ing, land­scap­ing and ir­ri­ga­tion, a 30m pon­toon and a 50m al­la­bil­ity ac­ces­si­ble pon­toon.

The first stage in­cluded two four- lane boat ramps, 220 car­with- trailer parks, and play­ground and pic­nic fa­cil­i­ties.

Mayor Jenny Hill said the project had been a suc­cess.

“Th­ese are fan­tas­tic fa­cil­i­ties for lo­cal fish­ers and their fam­i­lies and I in­vite ev­ery­one to come and cel­e­brate the open­ing with us,” she said. “The site has been a hive of ac­tiv­ity over the past year and the out­come is some­thing the whole com­mu­nity can be proud of.”

The fun day will fea­ture a num­ber of demon­stra­tions, ma­rine safety in­for­ma­tion, De­fence am­phibi­ous ve­hi­cles, prizes, en­ter­tain­ment, and food and drinks. There will also be 30 ex­hibitors, in­clud­ing the Townsville Coast Guard, Aus­tralian Bor­der Force, wa­ter po­lice and All State Boat Li­cens­ing and Train­ing.

The boat park has been the re­sult of a part­ner­ship be­tween Townsville City Coun­cil, the State Govern­ment and the Port of Townsville.
