BOAT PARK RAMPS UP THE FUN
BOATIES will celebrate the completion of work at the Townsville Recreational Boating Park in South Townsville with a family fun day from 12.30pm to 5pm today.
Stage 2 of the boat park is now complete with an additional 113 car- with- trailer bays, new wash- down areas, two more four- lane ramps, security cameras, extra lighting, landscaping and irrigation, a 30m pontoon and a 50m allability accessible pontoon.
The first stage included two four- lane boat ramps, 220 carwith- trailer parks, and playground and picnic facilities.
Mayor Jenny Hill said the project had been a success.
“These are fantastic facilities for local fishers and their families and I invite everyone to come and celebrate the opening with us,” she said. “The site has been a hive of activity over the past year and the outcome is something the whole community can be proud of.”
The fun day will feature a number of demonstrations, marine safety information, Defence amphibious vehicles, prizes, entertainment, and food and drinks. There will also be 30 exhibitors, including the Townsville Coast Guard, Australian Border Force, water police and All State Boat Licensing and Training.
The boat park has been the result of a partnership between Townsville City Council, the State Government and the Port of Townsville.
