Tigers keen to secure top spot

Townsville Bulletin - - SPORT -

HERMIT Park will have the chance to put the AFL Townsville minor premiership beyond doubt when they take on the Curra Swans at Muldoon Oval today.

It will be the last chance for the Tigers to fine tune their finals preparations before a bye next weekend, but they’re already in a commanding position having won 10 of their past 11 games.

Hermit Park and University are level on 52 points, but the Tigers have the superior forand- against and they can’t be dislodged from top spot should they beat the Swans.

Curra is on a high after notching their first win in two seasons against Northern Beaches before last weekend’s bye, but they’ll face a mammoth challenge to stop Hermit Park’s charge.

Meanwhile, defending pre- miers Thuringowa will be looking to build some finals momentum against the Northern Beaches Suns at Tony Ireland Stadium tonight.

The Bulldogs haven’t been as dominant as seasons past and they’re coming off a loss to University, but they have a good chance to bounce back against the fourth- placed Suns.
