Townsville Bulletin - - NEWS - ANDREW BACKHOUSE

AN AYR motel was badly damaged by fire last night.

Reports first came in to emergency services about 6.45pm saying that the top level of the Ayrline Motel was ablaze.

A spokeswoman for the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said three fire trucks attended the blaze.

“Crews en route to the inci- dent could see large amounts of smoke,” she said.

Another fire truck from Townsville, equipped with a telescopic ladder, was sent to assist with firefighting efforts.

The QFES spokeswoman said from all triple 0 reports everyone had been evacuated.

“Crews are still fighting the fire to determine if anyone is inside,” she said.

The fire was put out by 7.40pm and no one was injured.

Fire investigators are expected on the scene of the fire today to try to find the cause of the fire.

The hotel is located at the intersection of Graham St and Bruce Highway in the centre of Ayr.
