SOUNDS OF SUMMER
FAMOUS bands from across the country are converging on Townsville tomorrow for music festival Hotter than Hell.
Featuring Australia’s monsters of rock including Killing Heidi, The Superjesus and Eskimo Joe, the festival tour will kick off at the Kirwan Tavern from 2pm.
For Killing Heidi star Ella Hooper it’s a chance to return to a city she has happy memories performing in.
She also loves performing in places other than the capital cities.
“You get such a different reaction. You get more excitement and enthusiasm, which makes the gigs so much more powerful for us.”
Hooper said most of the bands performing were from the “golden years” of ’ 90s rock and roll.
“I think there’ll be a lot of reminiscing going on. I reckon it’s going to be a bit like a living flashback.”
Stuart Rudd from The Superjesus said Townsville was a lovely place. His father previously lived on Magnetic Island and he’s familiar with the locality.
Rudd said there was a “nice relaxed vibe” in North Queensland.
He said the bands had played together years.
“Most of these bands are from the ’ 90s, which was a significant time for the Australian music industry.”
Rudd said The Superjesus would perform its hits as well as obscure songs that haven’t been heard for a while.
Kavyen Temperley from Eskimo Joe is ready to get sweaty and said the humidity would make it a fun festival.
He’s looking forward to catching up with his peers from Jebediah and Killing Heidi.
“It’s fun to watch our friends play and will be great to catch up and have a beer and hear what they’ve all been doing with their lives.”
Temperley said the band was planning to roll out its big hits.
“If you’ve listened to our record and know the e hits then you’ll know all the songs we’ll play at the e festival.
“We want everyone to sing along and have a great time.”
