Felix not haunted by spill

- JORDAN GERRANS

AFTER a heavy fall at Home Hill in November last year, Townsville jockey Jeffrey Felix had no concerns in his mind about returning to race riding earlier this month. Why? Because he has no memory of his serious fall.

The 45- year- old suffered numerous injuries including a fractured skull and ruptured spleen when he fell from Mytang last year.

“I do not really recall it, I can’t remember the fall,” Felix said yesterday.

“It does not feel like anything happened, it just feels like I had a bit of time away from riding.

“I have just stepped straight back in really, I did not feel like I needed the rehab from it, I wanted to just get back into trackwork.

“It is great that I do not remember it, I would hate to wake up on the track and be screaming in pain.

“It does not scare me now that I have returned to racing.”

Felix spent time in Townsville Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit for treatment following the fall but has returned to the track in the best possible way.

He piloted Big Tomee, for Atherton trainer Jeffrey Williams, to a smart victory at Cannon Park last Saturday over the 950m journey.

Felix will continue the partnership with Big Tomee on Saturday afternoon at Mareeba but before that he will take three rides at Cluden Park this afternoon.

Felix selected the first- up Thurston as the best of his three rides this afternoon at Townsville with the Errol Sewell- trained gelding shooting for his third straight win.
