Gold mine to expand
A GOLD mine south of Townsville is expected to expand.
The board of Evolution Mining Limited, which runs the Mt Carlton mine, about 150km south of the city, approved progress of the Mt Carlton underground development, Stage 4 pit cutback and relevant plant modifications.
The company said the mine had a life to at least 2025 and these projects would allow production from the higher grade Link zone to be brought forward.
In a statement to the Australian Stock Exchange, the start of underground development required regulatory approval, which would be lodged in the coming month.
The first ore from underground is planned to be delivered in the 2021 financial year.
Evolution executive chairman Jake Klein said the company’s focus continued to be on margin and profitability.
News of the expansion comes after the Townsville Bulletin revealed plans for a new gold mine north of Townsville, near Forsayth.
