Gold mine to ex­pand

A GOLD mine south of Townsville is ex­pected to ex­pand.

The board of Evo­lu­tion Min­ing Limited, which runs the Mt Carl­ton mine, about 150km south of the city, ap­proved progress of the Mt Carl­ton un­der­ground de­vel­op­ment, Stage 4 pit cut­back and rel­e­vant plant mod­i­fi­ca­tions.

The com­pany said the mine had a life to at least 2025 and these projects would al­low pro­duc­tion from the higher grade Link zone to be brought for­ward.

In a state­ment to the Aus­tralian Stock Ex­change, the start of un­der­ground de­vel­op­ment re­quired reg­u­la­tory ap­proval, which would be lodged in the com­ing month.

The first ore from un­der­ground is planned to be de­liv­ered in the 2021 fi­nan­cial year.

Evo­lu­tion ex­ec­u­tive chair­man Jake Klein said the com­pany’s fo­cus con­tin­ued to be on mar­gin and prof­itabil­ity.

News of the ex­pan­sion comes af­ter the Townsville Bul­letin re­vealed plans for a new gold mine north of Townsville, near For­sayth.
