COWBOYS half Michael Morgan is looking forward to a long and hard pre- season.
The soon- to- be married footy star hopes to return to peak fitness after his seasonending biceps tear in June.
“It’s been a little while since I’ve had a full pre- season, so I’m actually looking forward to it, as hard as it will be,” said Morgan ( pictured).
“I won’t do any contact work the first couple of weeks back, but I’ll be doing it before Christmas for sure.
“I’m actually looking forward to it, as hard as it will be. I’m hoping to get back to my peak fitness.”
A switch- up within the Cowboys, including the loss of Johnathan Thurston and the signing of Dally M- winning fullback Ben Barba, means the players will be working on forging a new team dynamic before Christmas.
“Leading up to Christmas, it’ll be about everyone becoming the one group, and after that, it’ll be about how we are going to play footy next year,” Morgan said. The 26- year- old Queensland Origin star has a full schedule prior to his November 12 return, including an upcoming wedding to longtime girlfriend Brianna O’Toole before jetting off on a holiday.
Conceding he’d been “packing on the pounds” in the off- season, Morgan said he’d been doing some light training in preparation.
“Even through the off season while I’ ve been doing a bit of training, I’ve been tracking it on my phone,” he said. “I used to have a Fitbit, and I think it helps create and achieve goals. “I remember when I had my watch, my goal was 15,000 steps a day and when I had completed it, I felt like I had achieved something that day.”
