A CAT is lucky to be alive after it got trapped in a tiny gap between two buildings in Townsville.

RSPCA inspector Frank Bebernitz said firefighters were called to help free the male black and white cat from between the buildings in Walker St in the city’s CBD about 11am yesterday.

“( The) gap was estimated 125mm wide and about 2.2m deep,” Mr Bebernitz said.

He said the cat had pressure sores on both of its hips and may have been trapped for a while.

Mr Bebernitz said the cat would not have been freed without help from firefighters.
