Wet takes toll of street trees
TWENTY-THREE trees were removed from Flinders St because they had become unstable and were at risk of falling over after Townsville’s torrential downpour.
The lophostemon were removed yesterday.
All other existing trees – including the fig trees – remain in place.
Townsville Local Recovery and Resilience Group chair Cr Les Walker said mature trees would be replanted in Flinders St as soon as possible.
“The recovery from this unprecedented monsoon and flood is going to take some time and be felt right across our community,” Cr Walker said. trees
