Cen­tara to man­age re­sort on new Dubai is­lands

Dubai de­vel­oper Nakheel has signed a joint ven­ture agree­ment with Thai­land's Cen­tara for a 550- room beach­front re­sort in the Deira Is­lands, the man­made ar­chi­pel­ago cur­rently un­der con­struc­tion.

Un­der the agree­ment, the two com­pa­nies will de­velop the up­scale re­sort – Cen­tara’s first in the UAE – fea­tur­ing a wa­ter­park, F& B out­lets, a kids’ club, spa and fit­ness cen­tre. The re­sort’s soft open­ing is mooted for 2019 with a grand open­ing to fol­low in 2020.

Deira Is­lands, a 15.3km ² tourism and leisure desti­na­tion, will add 40km - in­clud­ing 21km of beach - to Dubai’s coast­line. Nakheel has al­ready in­vested more than AED3 bil­lion ( US$ 817 mil­lion) in in­fra­struc­ture work, in­clud­ing a bridge to the is­lands.

The de­vel­oper has also signed a joint ven­ture with Spain’s Riu Ho­tels & Re­sorts for an 800- room all- in­clu­sive re­sort and wa­ter­park on the is­lands, while an­other Thai ho­tel group, Mi­nor, is plan­ning a 500- room Avani- branded beach re­sort.
