THE Scot­tish Pas­sen­ger Agents’ As­so­ci­a­tion has lam­basted the UK gov­ern­ment for not keep­ing pace with con­sumer pro­tec­tions in the air travel space.

Ac­cord­ing to the SPAA, when Monarch Air­lines collapsed ( TD 03 Oct) it ex­posed a large swathe of trav­ellers who were not cov­ered by the Air Travel Or­gan­is­ers’ Li­cens­ing scheme.

The Bri­tish gov­ern­ment repa­tri­ated 110,000 pax stranded by the col­lapse, how­ever, re­ports cite that only 20,000 of those brought home at tax­pay­ers ex­pense were ATOL-cov­ered.
