World fleet dou­bles

THE world’s jet air­liner fleet is ex­pected to dou­ble over the next 20 years ac­cord­ing to in­ter­na­tional air­craft leas­ing com­pany Avolon.

Over 51,000 air­craft are ex­pected to be in ser­vice by 2036 with 16,000 air­craft to be de­com­mis­sioned over the same 20-year time pe­riod.

The mo­ti­vat­ing fac­tors for new or­ders will in­volve the need to re­place age­ing mod­els and en­sur­ing craft keep pace with mod­ern tech­nol­ogy.

“A to­tal of US$4.3t in ad­di­tional fi­nanc­ing will be re­quired, with US$700b needed over the next five years,” said Avolon head of strat­egy Dick Fors­berg.
