THE ze­bra is closely re­lated to horses and don­keys, but de­spite this they are very rarely do­mes­ti­cated.

Th­ese equines are na­tive to much of south­ern and eastern Africa, south of the Sa­hara.

In the mythol­ogy of the coun­try which the ze­bra be­longs to, the an­i­mals are said to have got­ten their stripes from a bucket of paint which they kicked over in im­pa­tience, wait­ing for the cre­ator to give them a more dec­o­rated coat.
