ALTURA’S JACKET HAS all the look of an occasional rain cape, but its performance impressed. The fit is exceptional, with ample movement, good-length sleeves and fit at the cuffs to prevent riding up, plus a high-necked collar. The insulation provided by such a lightweight jacket was a real surprise. It’s not vented, but manages to provide ample warmth on frosty mornings, as well as prevent sweat from building up on the inside. Two large, angled rear pockets swallow all you’ll need and are easy to use. The Podium Elite features taped seams, and the fabric does repel rain. However, the inner material was damp after an hour of moderate rainfall, so we wouldn’t recommend it for an all-day Sunday ride in January. For a quick training blast, or simply for colder days, however, it’s a safe bet.
