SIMON THE SAVIOUR
Her health quickly failing, Ashley clings to the idea that Dr Simon Neville’s treatments could save her life
Ashley looks to Dr Simon Neville to save her life, on The Young and the Restless.
Amid all of the stress of planning a fairytale wedding for her daughter Abby and her ancé Stitch, Ashley Abbott is carefully guarding a dreadful secret. The brain aneurysm that Ashley battled several months ago has recurred, leaving her fearing that her life is at stake.
Conducting secretive phone calls, Ashley (Eileen Davidson) mysteriously tells an unidenti ed person that she’s not divulging her condition to her family. “We’re doing things my way,” she insists before hanging up.
Observing Dr Simon Neville (Michael E. Knight) nearby, Ashley casually asks about his medical research work, telling the doctor she hopes he takes his research seriously.
Intriguing Simon with her suggestion of investing in his work by providing him with appropriate facilities at the Jabot lab, Ashley stuns Jack (Peter Bergman) by announcing she’s Simon’s business partner. Incensed by Simon’s involvement with Hilary’s (Mishael Morgan) recent captivity, Jack trashes the doctor’s reputation, thinking that Ashley has lost her mind if she wants to work with someone who is no more than a criminal.
Infuriated by her brother’s attitude, Ashley screams at him to let her rent the lab space to Simon. Once the deal’s done, Ashley seeks privacy, overcome with excruciating headaches and struggling to ingest her medication.
Ashley’s physical deterioration isn’t lost on a circumspect Simon who unintentionally irritates her by refusing to give her ironclad guarantees about the treatment’s outcome at such an early stage of development.
Suspicious of her demand for concrete proof of his results, Simon offers her an alternative compound he’s been studying.
Surprised to see him produce a gin bottle, Ashley relaxes slightly at his suggestion that she calm down. She’s soon toasting Neville and the eventual success of his work, issuing him with an invitation to escort her to Abby (Melissa Ordway) and Stitch’s (Sean Carrigan) upcoming wedding.
Nevertheless, Ashley’s stress levels continue skyrocketing as she juggles the research project and the wedding arrangements, nally climaxing in her sudden collapse in the middle of the wedding ceremony.
Despite her quick revival, Ashley obstinately insists on seeing through the wedding before Simon ushers her away from the reception, demanding to know the truth about her obvious health condition.
At the Jabot lab, Ashley breaks down in tears, recklessly trashing the research as she rants that Simon can’t help her. Revealing the truth, Ashley says she’s dying, prompting Simon to counter her reluctance to ght for survival.
He says he staunchly believes that his treatment saved Hilary and thinks he can save Ashley’s life too. In order for Simon to help her, he says that she must erase her defeatist attitude and place her entire trust in him.
