Under the gun
The investigation into a patient’s death puts the pressure on everyone, especially Frankie and Lou
Nobody’s perfect and that includes doctors. That hard truth is about to hit Frankie right where it hurts as she faces a horror night on the ward. At the same time, she is on a team investigating a patient’s death and they are about to present their findings.
Frankie (Claire van der Boom) is personally invested in the inquiry. She became close with patient Zoe because of Frankie’s own experience as an organ recipient. Zoe (Melissa Bonne) needed a new heart to survive and she got one but died shortly after surgery.
There was a mistake during the operation that Lou (Andrea Demetriades), Frankie’s best friend, noticed and called attention to but her boss Mitri (Blessing Mokgohloa) didn’t take her seriously. Lou confided the truth in Frankie but Lou has been sworn to secrecy by the surgical team who are banding together to protect their own
Lou fears coming forward will risk her career as a surgeon. She is being pushed to reveal what she knows of the truth not just by Frankie but by her other boss Maggie (Susie Porter) who hopes to gain from Mitri being discredited.
But Frankie must push her concerns about the investigation to one side while she works a night shift she’ll want to forget.
Frankie is on her own, with several patients to tend to. It means she has to prioritise one critically ill patient over the other, leading to disastrous results.
The incident gives Frankie new insight into being a doctor as the findings into Zoe’s death are revealed.
