The Egyptian Theatre
Right on Hollywood Boulevard, this historic cinema built in 1922 was the site of LA’s rst movie premiere — the Douglas Fairbanks epic, Robin
Hood. It later hosted premieres of such classics as Ben-Hur (in 1959) My Fair Lady and Funny Girl.
Renovated 20 years ago, the Egyptian is lavish in its scale and uses the ancient Egyptian motifs that were all the rage in the 1920s, from the courtyard entrance to the ornate interiors and the screen anked by models of the Sphinx. These days the cinema is busy showcasing classic lms, documentaries, independent lms and world cinema.
