Lo­cal drama stars hit film fes­ti­val

A num­ber of lo­cal drama and ex­soap stars have found suc­cess at the Toronto In­ter­na­tional Film Fes­ti­val. Hyde & Seek ac­tor Matt Nable’s movie 1% which he wrote and acts in along­side Packed to the Rafters ac­tor Ryan Corr has been picked up for US dis­tri­bu­tion. The lm is about ri­val out­law mo­tor­cy­cle gangs and re­ceived mixed re­views.

The highly an­tic­i­pated biopic I, Tonya pro­duced by and star­ring ex- Neigh­bours favourite Mar­got Rob­bie also pre­miered. In the movie, Rob­bie plays in­fa­mous Amer­i­can ice skater Tonya Hard­ing whose ri­valry with es­ca­lated in 1994 when Ker­ri­gan was at­tacked. I, Tonya has had pos­i­tive re­views and earned Oscar buzz for Rob­bie.

For­mer Home and Away ac­tor Jor­dan Ro­drigues also has a lm at the fes­ti­val. He is in Lady Bird, the di­rec­to­rial de­but from ac­claimed screen­writer and ac­tress Greta Ger­wig. It stars Oscar nom­i­nee Saoirse Ro­nan and The Big Bang The­ory’s Lau­rie Met­calf and fol­lows the tense re­la­tion­ship be­tween a mother and daugh­ter who are ac­tu­ally a lot alike. 60 OCT 2-OCT 16, 2017
