BAD TIMES IN SUMMER BAY
After traumatic head injuries, the youngster must face the fact life’s changed forever...
Raffy develops epilepsy after her fall!
With her two best friends Ryder and Coco in tow, Raffy’s enjoyed lots of fun adventures over the years! However, with the trio’s bond under serious strain from Ryder and Coco’s relationship bust-up, their most recent escapade has taken a tragic turn.
Feeling lost after Raffy (Olivia Deeble) and Coco (Anna Cocquerel) patched up their differences without him, Ryder (Lukas Radovich) has found mateship with the older and potentially dangerous Dean (Patrick O’Connor). His stories about his River Boy exploits have impressed the teen. Spurred on by thoughts of the happy camaraderie that exists among them, Ryder convinced the girls – who’ve been blanking him – to join him on a reconnaissance mission to the River Boys’ Mangrove River hideout.
Once entering the seedy underbelly of the building and its surrounds, the intrepid threesome almost immediately nd themselves OCT 15-29, 2018
in danger! Raffy plunges down a hole in the ground and slams her head, leaving her with horri c injuries. While Colby (Tim Franklin) and an heroic Chelsea (Ashleigh Brewer) feverishly worked to rescue her, the situation above ground isn’t much better. In Summer Bay, the teens’ parents and guardians unravelled their web of lies and, realising the predicament they were in, became frantic about their safety!
Raffy’s rescue and medical care ramped up the tension for all concerned. While the Stewarts and Astonis were consoled that Ryder and Coco were unharmed, the Palmers and Morgans were shell-shocked at the severity of the freak accident – and the fallout! Poor Raffy was ghting for her life with bleeding on the brain and a shaken Marilyn (Emily Symons) was simply overcome with guilt at her failure to protect her foster daughter.
However, the drama’s set to intensify in the weeks ahead as Raffy’s recovery is hampered by the worrying news that she has epilepsy! With her condition remaining unpredictable, she ends up collapsing on the beach in the throes of a seizure! Rushing to her aid, Marilyn, John (Shane Withington) and half-brother Brody (Jackson Heywood) struggle to keep her calm so she doesn’t hurt herself! They all know that her new circumstances will have to be managed well to stabilise her condition.
Apart from the physical toll Raffy’s injuries have on her, her mental and emotional wellbeing will also have to be considered. She may grapple with all the changes epilepsy makes in her life, and the blossoming relationship developing between her and Ryder will surely be impacted. He may try to support her in living her life as normally as possible, but if Raffy can’t accept or deal with the limitations that the threat of epileptic seizures have on her life, she could lose him before their love’s truly begun. With Coco set to leave the Bay, perhaps temporarily, in the months ahead, Raffy won’t have her best girlfriend around to help her out, either! TVS
