Adani vs wind farms
ONCE the Adani coal mine is scuttled, someone should ask Get-up and their supporters what they will put in its place. Wind farms? You’ve got be joking. They deface the local landscape , slice and dice bats and birds and produce very little power. What happens when the wind refuses to blow? No one seems to know how much of our money has been swallowed in subsidies. One estimate - and it is just that puts the cost at $2.95 billion.
The overseas experience is illuminating. One gentleman in Britain, now a multi-millionaire, admits to receiving the equivalent of $64 million. In parts of Wales, they are now so hated that signs have gone up along roads and fences saying “No Turbines.” Here, some farmers consider themselves lucky to get a decent night’s sleep, such is the low frequency noise from the rotor blades of these monsters.
All this to satisfy to meet a mythical Renewable Energy Target and in the breasts of Get-up and the Greens a warm inner glow. — PC and Jane Wilson,
