Government solar rebates still available
IF you’re considering solar, the time to act is now. Under the federal government’s Renewable Energy Target scheme, the rebate is set to decrease by approximately $400, based on a 6.6 kw system on December 31st. That’s a serious saving not to be sneezed at. Understanding the federal STC rebate
The federal government currently offers a financial incentive designed to encourage Australian homes, businesses and community groups to take up solar in a bid to meet our renewable energy target by 2030. This incentive comes in the form of an STC (small scale technology certificate) which is applied directly to the solar system at the time of installation. You do not need to pay up front or claim any money back as the incentive is built in to your upfront cost of your solar system.
The current STC calculation will reduce again at the end of the year and will do so each year until it is phased out in 2030, so if you’ve been considering solar, now is the time to act.

This high quality 5.5kw solar bundle comprises of the 5kw Fronius smart energy inverter, and 20 x 275-watt Seraphim panels for $5652.00.
This 5.5kw system will generate an average of 23kw of power each day, based on the Clean Energy Council’s recommendation of the average hours of 4.2 hours. Let’s say you self-consume 50% of the electricity you generate free from the sun. Based on the average output, that’s 11.5 kw each day. Applying today’s average electricity tariff of 28c/kw, you stand to make a saving of $3.22 each day. That might not seem much but over the course of a year that’s a massive $1,175.00 back in your pocket.
If you are exporting the remaining 50% at an average solar feed in tariff, dependent on solar retailer, of 12 cents per kw, that’s another saving of $1.38 cents per day, or a further $503.00 a year you’ll save in electricity costs. That’s a whopping total of $1678.00 per year in savings, and the possibility to recoup the cost of a 5.5 kw solar system in under four years, and you’ve still got years of solar savings ahead of you.
