While on the sub­ject of starter mo­tors and Cadil­lacs, the elec­tric starter-mo­tor was in­vented by none other than Charles Ket­ter­ing. So, when Henry Le­land went look­ing for a re­place­ment for the crank han­dle, the trail led him to Ket­ter­ing. Ket­ter­ing was a suc­cess­ful in­ven­tor in those days, op­er­at­ing a com­pany called Day­ton Engi­neer­ing Lab­o­ra­to­ries. You might know it by an­other name: Delco.
