This big cat roamed the world from 1975 to 1996. A grand tourer, over 115,413 were pro­duced in its 21-year life. The XJ-S ar­rived in 1976 with some man­u­als, but the ma­jor­ity were au­tos. The XJ-S fea­tured air-con, leather and tim­ber trim and some say elec­tri­cal grem­lins were also stan­dard. Un­der the long bon­net was a 220kW V-12 en­gine and in 1983 a Cabri­o­let ar­rived. Driven by John Goss the XJ-S won Bathurst 1985. Un­leaded fuel blunted it with 0-100km/h tak­ing an ag­o­nis­ing 8.5 sec­onds. The XJ-S slipped as low as $2000, but prices are on the up with a 1989 con­vert­ible re­cently fetch­ing $44,000. The best ad­vice is con­tact your lo­cal Jag car club or spe­cial­ist.
