Craft beer and cycling goes hand-inhand (or hand to mouth) and is a trend seized upon by Dutch entrepreneurs Daan van Well and Martijn Snelder, whose á Bloc Bicycle has begun cropping up in the UK, most notably at London’s Look Mum No Hands and the London Bike Show in February. So what does á Bloc offer that traditional craft ales don’t? Well, according to the owners it’s down to the recipe that features Alpine Minerals for improved rehydration and recovery. It’s also ‘enriched with proteins and vitamins’. Whether that’s enough to banish the effects of its 4.9% alcohol content is debatable as some scientists point the finger of headache blame at acetaldehyde, which is produced when alcohol’s metabolised by the body, no matter how pure a drink. Still, it’s worth a glug or two.
