POULAKIS’S GUIDE TO MILAN

Virgin Australia Voyeur - - BUSINESS ON THE ROAD -

STAY

I’ve stayed at The Best Western Hotel Galles

( Piazza Lima, www.galles.it/ en) for more than 15 years so it has a homely feel for me. It’s outside the hustle and bustle of the city with a great selection of local restaurants, and the service and hospitality is always 10 out of 10.

EAT

The food is always amazing at Non Solo Lesso ( Via Giorgio Jan, www.nonsololesso.it). It is owned and run by a small Italian family and they serve rustic Milanese food; very traditional. Keep in mind the portion size is quite large, so an entrée will easily cater for three or four people. Another favourite is Paper Moon ( Via Bagutta, www. papermoonrestaurants.com).

DRINK

When you need a pit stop during a shopping spree, Terrazza Aperol ( Piazza del Duomo, Cnr Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, Floor 2, www. terrazzaaperol.it/en) is a good choice — it has the best view of the Duomo.

VISIT

No matter how many times I visit Milan, the Duomo ( Piazza del Duomo, www.duomomilano.it/en) never gets old. Actually you appreciate it even more each time you see it. It has this ability to amaze you so that, for me, it’s a must. I also really enjoy the area of Brera which at night comes alive with various restaurants and bars to visit.

SHOP

You must visit Via Monte Napoleone. I’ve never forgotten the first time I walked down this famous street. Nothing but designer brand after designer brand. I instantly fell in love and to this day I still get that same feeling. I especially love this street at Christmas.
