Help at Hand

Vir­gin Aus­tralia is help­ing com­mu­nity part­ner CARE Aus­tralia pre­pare for cy­clone sea­son.

Staff mem­bers from Vir­gin Aus­tralia have been fundrais­ing to help stock emer­gency re­lief items in CARE Aus­tralia’s ware­house, pro­vided by the Aus­tralian Gov­ern­ment.

The air­line has been sup­port­ing CARE’s Dis­as­ter Re­sponse De­pot to raise funds for vi­tal items in­clud­ing shel­ter ma­te­ri­als, san­i­ta­tion kits and blan­kets. In Fe­bru­ary, shel­ter kits from the Aus­tralian ware­house were sent to Tonga to help peo­ple whose homes were de­stroyed by Cy­clone Gita.

Since the part­ner­ship be­tween Vir­gin Aus­tralia and CARE Aus­tralia be­gan, the air­line has as­sisted in ef­forts to help com­mu­ni­ties re­cover from var­i­ous nat­u­ral dis­as­ters, in­clud­ing 2015’s Cy­clone Pam, which struck Van­u­atu, and 2016’s Cy­clone Win­ston, which bat­tered Fiji.
