Cel­e­brat­ing 30 Years at 30,000 Feet

Starlight cel­e­brates 30 years by treat­ing Starlight Wish­grant­ing Fam­i­lies to an amaz­ing party thrown by Vir­gin Aus­tralia.

Starlight Chil­dren’s Foun­da­tion brought to­gether Starlight Wish­grant­ing Fam­i­lies, am­bas­sadors, VIPs and Cap­tain Starlight to cel­e­brate 30 years of bright­en­ing the lives of se­ri­ously ill kids and their fam­i­lies. Starlight’s of­fi­cial Wish­grant­ing part­ner Vir­gin Aus­tralia rolled out the red car­pet for a party in the Vir­gin Aus­tralia Syd­ney Air­port Do­mes­tic Lounge and a pri­vate joy flight around the east coast of New South Wales, as well as a spe­cial cock­pit tour.

Twelve Starlight Wish fam­i­lies took part in the fes­tiv­i­ties, in­clud­ing 24-yearold Mitch, a sur­vivor of both brain and blood can­cer; seven-year-old El­iz­a­beth, who has a neu­ro­log­i­cal dis­or­der; eightyear-old Made­line and her 13-year-old brother Harry, and 16-year-old Alexan­der, who all have rare ge­netic disor­ders; and seven-year-old Hayden and 19-year-old Ben, both in re­mis­sion for brain can­cer.

Join­ing them were surfer Mick Fan­ning, Su­per­cars cham­pion Jamie Whin­cup, dancer/singer Ti­mo­matic, Olympic gold medal-win­ning swim­mer Libby Trick­ett, chef Laura Cas­sai, TV pre­sen­ter Erin Molan, and foot­ballers Jed Hol­loway, Jack Gun­ston, Dan Rich and Matt de Boer.

By De­cem­ber, Starlight hopes to grant its 10,700th wish.

“For the past eight years Vir­gin Aus­tralia has wel­comed Starlight fam­i­lies on­board our air­craft as they take off on an ex­cit­ing wish-filled ad­ven­ture,” says Vir­gin Aus­tralia CEO John Borghetti.

“It is an hon­our to stand along­side Starlight as it cel­e­brates its 30-year mile­stone. I look for­ward to help­ing ful­fil many more wishes.”
