REQUEST FOR FLEET OF LARGER BOEING AIRCRAFT EXPANDS AIRLINE’S CAPACITY. The Virgin Australia Group has converted 10 orders for the 737 MAX 8 for the larger MAX 10 variant, to expand its single-aisle fleet from 2022 onwards.

The airline, which has a number of 737 MAX 8s on order, made the decision to add the MAX 10 — the largest member of the 737 MAX family — to provide additional capacity and flexibility.

“We are pleased to be welcoming the 737 MAX 10 aircraft into our expanding fleet in 2022,” said Virgin Australia Group Chief Financial Officer Geoff Smith. “We are proud to become Australia’s first operator of the 737 MAX and we look forward to the opportunities that operating this type of aircraft will open up to us.”

The Next Generation 737 currently forms the backbone of the Group’s fleet, with more than 80 in operation. The 737 MAX will further bolster the Group’s fleet capability.
