PEPPERS SILO HOTEL, LAUNCESTON

Virgin Australia Voyeur - - SNAPSHOT -

Built in the 1960s as grain brought prosperity to the area, the silos of Launceston have stood empty for the past decade — towering

35 metres over the picturesque Tamar River. Now, they have been given new life, with a $30 million makeover that has turned them into a 108-room, nine-storey hotel. The generously sized rooms are furnished with locally made furniture, and art throughout the hotel features the silos in various incarnations. You’ll also want to make the acquaintance of the ‘concierge’ — Archie the black labrador, who lives at the hotel and is always on hand to greet guests and help keep the night staff company.

89–91 Lindsay Street, Launceston; www.peppers.com.au.
