GORDON RIVER

Tasmania’s remote western wilderness is a UNESCO-protected site that offers visitors a glimpse of ancient forests and unspoiled waters. One of the best ways to see this breathtaking area is by boat. The purpose-built Spirit of the Wild catamaran is equipped with both diesel engines and electric motors and “when the vessel enters the Gordon River we switch the diesel propulsion engines off, leaving only the electric drive to propel the vessel forward, which means passengers enjoy a quiet cruising experience,” says RACT Group chief executive Harvey Lenno. The cruise is the first to depart from Strahan, on beautiful Macquarie Harbour, each morning (which means a maximum chance of seeing the river at its stillest) and includes a buffet lunch and two walking tours. www.gordonrivercruises.com.au.
