During the day visitors tiptoe amongst the frothy clouds in the clear blue sky or stand unmoved, immersed in the sunset or sunrise. When the night is quiet and still, and the moon cloaks itself from view, visitors walk among the glistening constellations of the Milky Way. The lake does not always disclose its charm. Only perfectly tranquil weather transforms Lake Tyrrell into the illusory and enchanting ‘mirror lake’. Any drop of rain or gust of wind will fracture the perfect reflection of the mesmerising scenery. Many tourists stay there for days waiting for the perfect photo opportunity when the lake reveals its magic. The area’s absence of light pollution brings out the full array of glistening jewels in the night sky not easily seen in the Southern Hemisphere.

Sea Lake is an agricultural town that farms wheat, canola and peas. A long history of drought has severely impacted the local economy. Lake Tyrrell now ranks among the mustsee destinations on many Chinese tourist sites, providing a new source of income for the area. This new surge of tourism to the newly realised natural spectacle has had a stabilising effect on the local economy, which is helping to alleviate the town’s economic woes.
