The Mysterious Lalu Island

Vision Magazine - - Destinations -

There is a small, mysterious island at the junction of the two lakes, Lalu Island. It is believed that the local ethnic minority Thao people who live on the island took up cultivation practice many thousands of years ago, marking Lalu Island as a sacred space. Visitors are not allowed to the island to ensure this sacred space is preserved. Many ancestral rituals are performed by the inhabitants of this island, which used to be called Guanghua Island. It was renamed in the traditional Thao language after the 1999 earthquake, when its spiritual significance was once again recognized.
