The rich variety of Italian cuisine arrived on the north wind in Sydney recently, where the fifth annual Italian Food & Wine Festival was held at Barangaroo Reserve. SMEG, the Italian manufacturer of quality kitchen appliances, was a proud festival sponsor.

Food and wine tasting is a highly celebrated element of Italian culture, with renowned Italian chefs invited to participate in the festival. There were several cooking demonstrations held, with pizza chef Youssef Ben’s “pizza acrobatics” stealing the show. The acrobatics featured a series of skilled tosses, flips, spins and stretches, earning constant applause and cheers from a delighted audience. The unique flavours of the festival served to highlight the famous Italian passion and generosity.

Festival founder Lara Caraturo is very happy with the new venue for the festival’s fifth year, stating, “This year it’s all about us growing up and getting a world-class venue.” As a delicious accompaniment to the traditional cuisine, over 200 Italian wines were presented, with wine specialists demonstrating the arts of wine making and tasting techniques.

This beautiful festival brings the traditions of lively Italian street life and its joyous atmosphere into the present. Renowned head chef Scott Williams said, “Italian food and culture is such a big part of Sydney life, so an event like this should be celebrated.”
