The Café Fit for a King

Vision Magazine - - Destinations -

Scenic Sassafras, a town located in the stunningly picturesque Dandenong ranges, hosts the historic King Henry Arts Café. This beautiful cafe was established in 1902 and still boasts many of its original fittings. The original fixtures and fittings combine with a range of gorgeous antiques to create a warm and cosy feel, very welcome on a chilly winter’s day. Recent renovations make it the perfect stopping place if you’re on a day trip to one of the nearby towns or taking a ride on the famous Puffing Billy.

You can snap a selfie with the Yeoman Of The Guard who will welcome you upon arrival, and once you’ve ordered breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea from a mouth-watering menu including a range of homebaked goods, you can play a board game on the deck outside, try your hand at the giant chess game on the lawn or wander through the café’s lovely gardens. The menu caters for a wide range of tastes, including vegetarian options.

Beautifully decorated rooms, extensive grounds featuring formal gardens as well as some more natural spaces, delicious food and coffee and friendly staff all combine to make this a trip well worth making. This family friendly café also welcomes dogs on leads (your pup might even be lucky enough to get his own doggy treat!), so there is truly something for everyone here. Locals and visitors alike love this beautiful place, with many regulars returning to dine on the delicious treats and enjoy the tranquil surrounds time after time.
