Internet users jokingly refer to Sun Yi as "Cutie Yi" because she is a good natured and lively person who loves interacting with fans online. However, she is very serious about her work and does her best at every performance. As a result, she not only gets support from the cast and crew, but also from her huge fan base.

"I'm not afraid of failure," Sun Yi says, "as long as I’ve tried my best."

Only three short years after her debut, Sun Yi won the 19th Shanghai International Film Festival Asian New Talent Award for the best actress in the movie Male Joy/female Love (2016).

"The role of Jiang Sheng in the new TV series gives me the same feeling." Sun Yi says that after breaking into the entertainment industry, she was alone in a big city, with no support or resources close by. Though knowing little about acting, she never gave up. "I kept telling myself that one day the world will know who I am… My name is Sun Yi."
