At an altitude of 1,100 metres above sea level, the quiet night sky is full of excitement. Kangaroos leap past the windows in twos and threes while insects hum songs and the stars icker in the night sky. Felicity Sharwood, General Manager of the Retreats says, “There is no extravagant architecture here. Simply relaxed and private, it is an escape from the hustle and bustle of the everyday world. This is luxury resort, which is unique to Australia and different from luxury resorts in Europe, America and Asia!”

Spicers Retreats was officially established in 2010. The retreat is nestled in the World Heritage listed Main Range National Park, 120 kilometres to the west of Brisbane. Undisturbed by humans and the outside world, many endangered animal and plant species inhabit the rainforests here. “After this piece of land was bought, the owners soon went on to buy more land nearby. Although it appears to be an expansion of the resort, it’s better to say that it’s for the protection of the environment from deforestation,” says General Manager Felicity Sharwood.

The resort is situated on top of the hill and accommodates only 26 guests at a time. Much of the area is private land where you can walk, hike or mountain bike through the forest track. At night, peace and mystery fills the space while stars dot the sky. Meanwhile the faint glow from the mountain lodge attracts kangaroos and other wild native animals that seem curious to know who the guests are for the night.

Spicers Retreats is people’s ideal choice for weddings, family gatherings or small luxury business functions. The tranquillity, the wine and the cuisine are major drawcards.” --Felicity Sharwood, General Manager

Spicers Retreats is a typical Australian-style luxury manor, “The elegant brick and wood architecture, the open-plan living room, dining room, bar and entertainment spaces make you feel at home. When it’s cold, you can read and chatter by the fireside with coffee and snacks always accessible from the restaurant. When the weather is nice, you can enjoy a picnic on the lawn, a spa on the deck, sit around the campfire at night, or enjoy a nice meal with wine,” says Felicity.

“Spicers Retreats is people’s ideal choice for weddings, family gatherings or small luxury business functions. The tranquillity, the wine and the cuisine are major drawcards,” Felicity said, “Many couples come here for their honeymoon and it has become a very popular destination to relax and be connected to nature for mothers-tobe.”

Here, it is easy to lose yourself in the wilderness of the mountains, and it is especially easy to lose yourself in delectable food and wine!
