THE INNOVATOR: Philippe Malouin
This was Malouin’s year. The Canadian-born, London-based designer showed work across Milan, but outstanding was his Arca lighting system for New York’s Matter Made, a custom chandelier that contrasts the classicism of curved brass against the modernity of a linear form. Small LED bulbs at the tip of each branch create the illusion of candle flames. For Marsotto Edizioni, Malouin created a modular, wall-mounted furniture range in white Carrara or black Marquina marble comprising wardrobe, console and desk. It was a beautifully understated play on form, function and luxury.
