Season gets started
WHILE there are few official events happening at Falls Creek, Mt Hotham and Mt Buller at present, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy skiing, snowboarding and more across the region.
Last weekend saw the official opening of snow season, and thousands headed to the various resorts to enjoy the early winter snow.
At Mt Buller, Resort Management group marketing manager Gill Dobson said the mountain had had “an amazing start” to the season, with early snowfalls meaning skiing could be had before the actual official season opening.
While no snowfalls had been reported at Mt Buffalo at the time of going to press, Parks Victoria staff believe snow will fall soon in the area.
During the snowy months, the mountain is ideal for snow play, tobogganing, snowshoeing and cross country skiing and during winter, has areas of snow at Dingo Dell and Cresta Valley to enjoy, as well as ungroomed cross country skiing trails.
There is also a a café and day shelter at Dingo Dell. On Thursday, June 15 seasonal
road closures will take place on the following roads at Mt Buffalo: from just past the Cresta car park to The Horn. Visitors wanting to access The Horn can do so by walking or skiing approximately 6km return.
Keep an eye on snow cams, including www.mtbuffalocam.com.au, or ask at your local ski hire business or tourism information centre to find out current snow levels at Mt Buffalo.
