Big fun follows snow flurries
RECENT cold weather has really bolstered snow levels across the North East’s snow resorts, making it a perfect time to check out on snow events.
At Falls Creek, the regular Renault Night Show continues on August 17, while the home grown Slopestyle event, Storm the Castle, will electrify snowsports fans on Saturday, August 19.
This Saturday will also see the Australian Open Sprint Championships.
Over at Mt Hotham, this weekend’s events will include the Milne Shield, a memorial race commemorating and celebrating the achievements of Myrtleford’s Milne brothers.
The race takes place between the Myrtleford Alpine Race Team (MART) and the Bright College Snowsports Team (BCST) and takes place on Saturday.
The Buller Team Challenge takes place on Mt Buller this Saturday, as does the Chillfactor FreeBOM.
Monday, August 21 will also see the Subaru Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships at Mt Buller.
You can enjoy activities such as snow play, tobogganing and cross country skiing at Mt Buffalo, although snow cover can vary depending on the weather.
Those at Mt Buffalo say there is lots to do there for a budget friendly family fun day, encouraging families to bring sand pit toys to play in the snow, or special items to decorate their own snow people.
Facilities on the mountain include a café and day shelter at Dingo Dell.
Keep an eye on snow cams and the website of your preferred mountain, or ask your local ski hire business or tourism information centre for information on current snow conditions at resorts around the area.
