Competitions heat up on the local mountains
A RANGE of events will be gracing North East snow resorts this week.
At Falls Creek, you can enjoy the regular Renault Night Show on Thursday, August 24, as well as the Falls Creek Invitation Night Sprints.
Saturday, August 26 also sees the Kangaroo Hoppet, one of the biggest annual events in the area and billed as Australia’s premier long distance cross country ski race.
As well as a competitive 42km event, there are also several shorter distances to suit different needs, and the event is also an exciting spectacle for onlookers.
More information on the Hoppet is available on www.hoppet.com.au.
Meanwhile, at Mt Hotham, you can take part in a fundraising barbecue on August 26 for Scott Ryan, who is raising money for his Firefighter Stair Climb challenge, which raises money to help fight mental health issues.
If health and exercise is more your thing, Saturday also sees a Pilates in the Snow event.
From August 24-27, watch some of Australia and the world’s best compete in the FIS ANC SBX and Ski-X events.
There are also plenty of activities and fun to enjoy at Mt Buller.
You can enjoy activities such as snow play, tobogganing and cross country skiing at Mt Buffalo, although snow cover can vary depending on the weather.
Facilities on the mountain include a café and day shelter at Dingo Dell.
Keep an eye on snow cams and the website of your preferred mountain, or ask your local ski hire business or tourism information centre for information on current snow conditions at resorts around the area.
