Snow opening on the way
WITH the cold nights drawing in, snow resorts are bustling in anticipation for opening this weekend.
At Falls Creek, opening weekend festivities include the launch celebration of the $9 million Eagle Express chairlift (a high speed detachable quad chair); the opening of the newly renovated Frying Pan Inn and Cloud 9, two of the mountain’s largest venues which has been renovated by the Traverse Alpine Group; and the launch of the Nickelodeon sponsored Children’s Ski School (with the powerhouse children’s entertainment company sponsoring all children’s programs).
At Mt Hotham, celebrations will include fireworks and first tracks, as well as shopping, live music and pop up restaurants.
At Mt Buller, this Saturday will see a full schedule of free family activity in the Mt Buller Village Square from 3.30-7pm, including lots of children’s entertainment and activities, and Mt Buller Olympians and Paralympians Belle Brockhoff, Anton Grimus, Jakara Anthony and Mitch Gourlay will officially open the season prior to an opening fireworks display.
Meanwhile, Mt Buffalo, only a 45 minute drive from Porepunkah and Bright, will continue to have extensive areas of snow at both Dingo Dell and Cresta Valley for snow play and tobogganing, cross country skiing, or simply enjoying the amazing views, with facilities including a café, day shelter and more.
Despite Thredbo resort in NSW banning toboganning and snowplay, Victorian alpine resorts are reassuring visitors that there is no such ban in Victoria.
Speaking on behalf of the Victorian alpine resorts, Mark Bennetts, chief executive officer of the Mt Buller and Mt Stirling Resort Management Board, said “tobogganing and snowplay are popular activities for thousands of visitors each snow season, providing a fun and affordable way to experience the snow.
“Each of the Victorian resorts are pleased to provide designated areas in which to enjoy these activities”.
