Farm set for cattle dog trials

Wangaratta Chronicle - - Rural Roundup - BY SAMANTHA DICK

IT’S not too late to secure your entry in Forge’s Farm’s cattle dog trial this weekend, but you’ll need to get in quick.

Competition organiser Ellen Forge encouraged local cattle dog owners to submit a late entry and round up some spectators to attend the family-friendly event.

“This is Forge’s Farm’s first cattle dog trial,” she explained.

“The competition is getting more and more popular and we thought it’d be a good opportunity to bring people to the area to compete with their working dogs.”

Ms Forge said competitors must use their working dog to herd three head of cattle around a special obstacle course.

She said the competition would be divided into four categories; encouragement, novice, open, and a two dog challenge, based on the working dog’s experience and ability.

“Anyone is encouraged to enter, providing their dog is able to work cattle,” she said.

Entrants must be a member of Victorian Cattle Dog Trial Association and the entry fee is $25.

The competition will take place next weekend at 7.30am on September 23 and 24 at Forge’s Farm on Wangaratta-Whitfield Road, Oxley.
