Man charged: alleged use of machetes
A MAN who allegedly produced two machetes during a fatal White Street brawl will contest the charge of intentionally causing serious injury.
Paul Kerr, 47, appeared at Wangaratta Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where he faced a number of charges, including recklessly and intentionally causing serious injury, and a separate charge for handling, receiving and retaining stolen goods.
Police alleged Kerr wielded two machetes, which he used to assault cousins Jacob Allan, 23, and Christopher Meaney, 28, in the brawl.
Wangaratta man, Russell Berry, 41, tragically died as a result of injuries he sustained in the affray - and Allan is charged with his murder.
Kerr is due to reappear in court next month for contest mention.
