Leonard-Scott to address local umpires later this month
LOCAL cricket umpires will have the opportunity to hear from state umpires manager Jason Leonard-Scott later this month when the WDCA holds its annual umpires Annual General Meeting.
The annual general meeting will be held at the Wangaratta Club on Tuesday, September 25 beginning at 5:30pm.
Following the meeting, a meal will be had before Leonard-Scott gives a talk on umpire strategies and demonstrates various techniques.
WDCA umpires co-ordinator Jim Davidson said having Leonard-Scott up for the night was a great opportunity for local officials to discuss all things umpiring.
“Jason will be up to get to know the local umpires,” he said.
“It’s an opportunity for him to pass on different strategies and also let our local guys know what is going on at state level.
“He’ll answer any questions from the floor and also elaborate on the pathways available to umpires.”
With the local season just around the corner, Davidson said the umpir- ing group was getting ready for another big season with over 20 cricket devotees to officiate the league’s matches.
Davidson said there was still plenty of time for anyone wanting to get involved to come forward and urged those interested to attend the AGM.
“Our numbers are looking quite strong but we can always do with more,” he said.
“It’s about encouraging umpires at all levels and that includes at the junior level.
“There are great opportunities for umpires – last year Richie Heywood went to the Country Cricket Championships in Western Australia.”
