Councils’ collective tender saves ratepayers $300,000

A JOINT tender process by five North East councils for annual reseal works has saved Rural City of Wangaratta ratepayers more than $300,000 next financial year.

Procurement Australia undertook the collaborative process for reseal works on behalf of the rural city, Benalla, Murrindindi, Towong and Wodonga councils with each council providing their own scope and agreed specification.

The successful tenderer was Downer EDI Works Pty Ltd.

Mayor Ken Clarke told last week’s public council meeting at Tarrawingee that council had budgeted for more than $1 million for the works.

He then, in a sense of theatre more akin to the announcement of an Academy Award, opened the envelope and announced the successful tender price of $667,007.42.

“Quite a saving,” the master of understatement Cr Clarke said.
